As I guide I need to be able to hand clients a piece of gear and not need to explain a whole lot. On some reels, the on-off feeling of the drag and the somewhat new fad of recessing the drag knob into the reel can be frustrating for both guide and client when a hot fish is tearing it up. I am happy to say that this reel is intuitive, with an excellent drag that allows for a lot of control and most importantly, very solid/positive drag positioning clicks. There is no On/Off feeling and you get a super smooth transfer from no drag all the way up through the range to the highest setting (which I am pretty sure would tire Moby Dick). The large drag knob is stellar. I bought a 7/8 Delta to balance a 5110-4 Redington Prospector Switch for teaching spey/switch and to use on a client 8 wt setup for salt. On the Prospector it is a fantastic match, and able to keep 150 yds of 30# backing with mono running line and a Scandi Versi-Tip from Rio. As my salt setup, I have 150 yds of 30# with a Rio Outbound. For stripers, blues and albies this is perfect and you can really control big runs from the boat. For the money you will not find a better reel!
